About Us

What is our objective?

The objective of DFS team is to help students from economically weaker backgrounds to attend online classes in India. This can be in the form of arranging for secondhand smartphones/tablets in good condition or pooling funds to buy a new device or providing any technical help required in general.

How did this initiative start?

A couple of us helped two students who were not able to attend online classes as they did not have mobile devices. Few of our friends pooled funds to buy a tablet and a phone for them. Seeing them able to join online classes and learn gave us the motivation to start this initiative so that more students could be benefitted.

Where did this start?

We started this in Bengaluru, but now have volunteers from many other cities.

Who are team DFS members?

We are a group of people with regular jobs, leading regular lives who have come together to help students in need. We strongly believe that every child has the right to education. We wanted to use our technical knowledge and networking skills to reach out to students. The common thread among us is that we are passionate about the cause and believe that we can put our skills to good use in our efforts to help students.

Why we do not display names/pictures of individual members?

Though there is a core group of members who manage this, we envision this as a community led initiative and not owned by a few individuals. Each of us has a role to play in how this model works.

What is our goal?

Just handing over a device is not our goal. When each student that we helped is able to attend online class regularly and is able to meet their learning objectives, we consider that success.

What happens after COVID situation is normalised and regular classes start?

We will take a call based on how education system functions then.

Do we get paid?

No, all work is pro-bono.

Whats in it for us?

We get the satisfaction of having used our knowledge and skill sets for a cause we believe in.

Can I become part of this initiative?

Yes. You can be part of this initiative in the following ways:

• Refer a Student who is not able to attend classes as they could not afford devices

• Donate your old device that is in good condition for a student to use

• Pledge an amount that can be used to purchase a device for a student

• Become a Volunteer to help in identifying students, providing technical help, help with logisitics, monitor student success.
